AI & Automation for Small Business in Cedar Rapids

Every week there's a new AI tool claiming to transform your business. Most of them don't fit. Matt works with Cedar Rapids small businesses to figure out where AI or automation would actually save time and money — and where it would just be expensive theater. The first step is always a conversation, not a pitch.

What's included

What I help with

AI and automation work starts with figuring out what's actually stuck — before any tool gets mentioned. Everything below comes out of that first conversation.

Discovery conversation

Figure out what's actually stuck before any tool gets mentioned. The problem is usually clearer than the technology.

AI readiness assessment

Honest evaluation of whether your data, systems, and team capacity are ready for AI work to be worth doing.

Tool selection on purpose

Pick the right tools for your actual situation, not whatever is loudest this month. Vendor pressure goes both ways.

Practical automation setup

Support-reply drafting, content workflows, document handling, internal tools, lead routing, reporting pipelines — whatever fits the real problem.

Small data foundation

Clean sources, simple pipelines, and a place where decisions can actually be made. Most AI advice skips this step entirely.

How it works

Scoped after a real conversation.

No fixed price. Every engagement starts with a free 15-minute call.

No fixed price. Every engagement is scoped after a real conversation.

This work is deliberately exploratory. The first step is figuring out what you're actually trying to solve — where AI or automation could meaningfully help, and what it would take to build something worth using. The shape of the engagement comes out of that conversation, not a price sheet.

How it usually starts: a free 15-minute discovery call to talk through what's stuck and whether this is the right kind of work for the situation. If it's a fit, the next step is a small scoping engagement — an investigation rather than a deliverable — so we can write down what's worth doing, in what order, and what it would cost. Pricing for any actual build is quoted from that, never up front.

If AI isn't the right fit for your situation, that's the honest answer you'll get on the first call.

Questions about AI & Automation

Do I need a lot of data to start?

Not always — but Matt will tell you honestly if you do. Part of the discovery conversation is figuring out whether your data is ready for AI work, or whether the first useful step is building a cleaner foundation before any AI gets involved.

Is this just ChatGPT advice?

No. The work is about understanding your specific situation — your team, your data, your systems — and figuring out where automation would actually reduce work rather than just add another tool to manage. That might involve large language models, or it might not.

What if AI isn't actually the right fit?

Then that's the honest answer you'll get from the first call. Wasted AI engagements are expensive and demoralizing. If the situation calls for a process fix or a better reporting system instead, that's what you'll hear.

How is pricing figured out?

After the free discovery call, if it's a fit, Matt proposes a small scoping engagement to map the work. From there, pricing for any build is based on what was scoped — never quoted blindly up front from a rate card.
